Putnam Lumber distributes hardwood lumber by the bundle and by the truckload. Our most popular species, sizes, and grades are listed below:

Yellow Poplar
Thickness: 4/4", 5/4", 6/4", and 8/4"
Grade: FAS1F
Charachteristics: relatively stable, east to machine and glue
Coloration: light to dark green heartwood with a creamy sapwood
Applications: can be used as both a paint grade and stain grade

Maple
Thickness: 4/4", 5/4", 6/4", and 8/4"
Grade: Select & Better
Charachteristics: excellent machining and finishing properties
Coloration: the heartwood varies from pale to reddish gray and the sapwood is white to off white
Applications: mostly used in cabinetry and mouldings for both paint and stain grade

Red Oak
Thickness: 4/4", 5/4", 6/4", and 8/4"
Grade: FAS1F
Charachteristics: very hard, but it does machine, stain, and finish quite well
Coloration: varies in color from light pink to light red
Applications: mostly used in cabinetry and furniture manufacturing

White Oak
Thickness: 4/4", 5/4", 6/4", and 8/4"
Grade: FAS1F
Charachteristics: more dense than red oak, but has a more even texture, and is easier to machine and finish than red oak
Coloration: very light grey to very light tan
Applications: cabinetry, furniture, and architectural millwork

Cherry
Thickness: 4/4", 5/4", 6/4", and 8/4"
Grade: Select & Better
Charachteristics: very easy to machine and finishes nicely
Coloration: heartwood is reddish brown and sapwood is light yellow
Applications: cabinetry and furniture manufacturing
